My strength is as the strength of ten, because my heart is pure – Lord Tennyson.
Waking up last Tuesday morning was like any other day in London. I was there, staying with JR; he went off to work and I was about to watch Game of Thrones (why am I so late to the game?!) or something. I had a notification from Instagram – @inthefrow has mentioned you in a comment. What?! Cue sheer exhilaration as I read the word CONGRATS!! Never in a million, gazillion years did I think that I would win one of the ten places to meet Victoria on Friday night.
Tuesday was spent in a bit of a frenzy. Obviously, I had limited luggage in London: nothing in red. I ran to Oxford Circus, frantically messaging my best friend for advice, tried on tops and dresses. I bought one top, to realise that I needed a dress, and ordered a gorgeous pair of shoes. After two hours spent on Boohoo, I whittled it down to three dresses (and got the £1.50 next day delivery!), and relax.
All of this exciting, once-in-a-lifetime, opportunity is in aid of the Wear It, Beat It campaign ran by The British Heart Foundation (The BHF). Just every three minutes, somebody suffers from a heart attack in the UK, with 30% of the heart attacks being fatal. This is something close to the hearts of my own family, and so to go and honour those and their families who have suffered was fantastic. In celebration of such an incredible campaign, ten of Victoria’s readers/followers/subscribers were given the chance to meet her for a special three-course dinner at the incredible Sanderson in London.
It was a wonderful night. The nine other girls were all fab, and from all walks of life; not even all of us were bloggers or YouTubers which was a lovely surprise. Emma, from The BHF, was gorgeous and made us all feel right at home, even within somewhere as classy and prestigious as a central London hotel. Victoria was incredible, of course. It felt like we already knew her in a sense because of her down-to-earth nature in her videos and latest vlogs, and she took the time to get to know each of us individually too.
Cocktails and wine flowed. Food was served in style. The private room was intimate and cosy. There were cute cupcakes! It was a perfect evening.
The date that everyone needs to put in their calendars is this Friday, 9th June! Part of the Wear It, Beat It campaign is to create an event that includes the colour red. So, a red dinner party with red wine and red raspberry cake, or a sleepover with red blankets and cushions whilst watching films with the word red in them, or perhaps a cocktail class only using red ingredients! Imagine the concoctions you could make. I think I’ll be inviting my bestie round for some glasses of raspberry liqueur prosecco. Victoria has more ideas which you can read here.
I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to meet Victoria from In The Frow, and even better to do so for such a great cause.
What will you be doing for Wear It, Beat It this Friday?
Love, Faye xo
