A Happy Skin Recipe With The Body Shop

Beautiful skin requires commitment, not a miracle – Erno Laszlo.

I am the least beautified person I know. I have every intention of starting a fantastic skincare regime almost every month. And then, it never happens. I am somewhat lucky with my skin because there are minor blemishes and it is soft on the surface. Nevertheless, I don’t know what’s going on underneath that surface. Currently, I use my Garnier Micellar Water which I love, but that’s pretty much it. Terrible. I know.

When I saw an ad pop up on my Instagram for a local bloggers event at The Body Shop, I knew I had to go. It was an event – something I want to attend more of – and a chance to meet fellow bloggers around Liverpool and see the brand new products in person. There were quite a few of us there, but it wasn’t packed, making the ambience and space a perfect combination of excitement and calm. Nibbles and prosecco greeted us at the doors of the gorgeous Liverpool One store and we were instantly made to feel welcome by the team.

Once the initial talk was over, I was invited to have a facial (my skin is tingling remembering it now) which was entirely relaxing, leaving my skin feeling rejuvenated, nourished and soothed. It felt particularly replenished after a day of working in an old empty house, stripping walls and being covered in dust. Sophie was a dream, making me feel comfortable and giving lots of advice about what products I should and shouldn’t be using for my skin.

Here, the consultant – Sophie in my case – asks you some questions about the type of skin you have, your current regime and skincare goals. There are tick boxes to best help your consultant decide which products to use for your skin. For my own ultimate skincare goal, I opted for hydrated & replenishedsoothed, calm skin and radiant & glowing. Everybody wants a little glow about them, don’t they?

I also have sensitive skin; Sophie opted to use all sensitive friendly products for my skin.

Product used: Drops of Youth Youth Gentle Foamwash

Enriched with three plant stem cells including edelweiss from the Italian alps, Community Trade organic babassu oil from Brazil, criste marine and sea holly from the Brittany coast, this particular foaming wash is strictly 100% vegan, leaving the skin feeling instantly refreshed after first use. Both Sophie and I agreed that we like to see instant results in our skincare. My skin felt cool and fresh which was a blessing after having it feel hot, greasy and dry throughout the day.

Product used: Seaweed Oil Balancing Toner

Having combination skin can be somewhat a small curse for skincare and makeup. The area around my nose dries and has caused redness and flakes for long periods of time before now, whereas my forehead and chin are extremely oily. To have a product like the Seaweed Toner would be a Godsend, and something I really should be using. It is alcohol-free which is something every toner should be, otherwise what is the point? – you learn something new every day! It has algae and cucumber extract as well as the main ingredient being mineral rich seaweed from Roaring Water Bay in Ireland. It purifies the skin, removing any excess makeup and cleanser.

Product used: Roots of Strength Firming Shaping Serum

Before this facial, I didn’t realise that a serum was part of the daily skincare regime. A serum is used to smooth and refine, taking away some of those wrinkles and redefining the plumpness in your skin. The new Roots of Strength one has an infusion of three root extracts: ginger from Madagascar, ginseng from China, ruscus from Europe as well as Community Trade soya oil from Brazil. The skin does feel firmer, and it doesn’t need a lot of product in order to make that happen either! Every little helps, as this product is more expensive than others in the skin recipe. This step in the regime is something that Sophie said “you cannot live without. If there was one must-have to buy, it’s the serum.”

Product used: Drops of Youth Youth Bouncy Eye Mask

Definitely to be used when a hangover occurs, and your eyes just puff and seep and replay antics from the night before. Or, to be used as a mask overnight when you are feeling extra tired. That is the great thing about this product: it can be used in more ways than one, depending on what situation you find yourself in. It is both instant and long-lasting which is the best combination an eye mask can be. It is 100% vegan with extracts of cucumber and Community Trade organic babassu oil from Brazil. Dots of product are to be pressed inward along the eye bone before smoothed out to the temple: very relaxing as part of the complimentary facial in The Body Shop.

Product used: Roots of Strength Firming Shaping Day Cream

The final touch to the Happy Skin Recipe and every skincare routine is the moisturiser. Sophie used the new Roots of Strength day cream as it is rich but non-greasy and so absorbs beautifully into the skin, leaving a soft finish. Skin also feels firmer and denser, and therefore stronger than before. Again, the ingredients are enriching with the 100% Vegan sticker stamped proudly onto each bottle. It makes me feel so much better about the entire process as each product is naturally sourced.

Each and every product really did work wonders on my skin; I loved the entire facial experience with Sophie and will be returning to The Body Shop in Liverpool One to get another one! The quality of these products is impeccable from the ingredients to the packaging; things that stand out to the skincare newbie. The total of this routine would set me back a total of £95. Although that number initially frightens the life out of me, all of these products combined are well worth the money. Without a doubt.

After that incredible facial and learning lots of tips and tricks, it was onto my base of The Make-up Wardrobe. I love putting makeup on; however, I do prefer to go bare-faced, especially during travel to hotter escapes, to work and general everyday life when nobody is going to see me (at least those who do, are the ones who don’t judge my lack of makeup!).

I decided to go for light coverage – I like to see my freckles pop through because as much as some people despise them, I adore freckles. So, the lovely makeup artist chose All-In-One BB Cream in shade 02 which is for medium skin tones. I have to agree with the colour; it fit perfectly, especially as a cream that can change an adapt to the natural tan on your skin. Bonus for holiday goers! As for concealer, the 03 Lightning Touch complimented my skin, brightening my under eye area – perfect for any dark circles!

A truly great evening, and I learned lots of things about my own skin which I will be taking with me throughout the rest of my twenties!

Love, Faye xo
