Shop Small This Christmas – 4 Incredible Independent Businesses

Behind every small business, there’s a story worth knowing – Paul Ryan.

Christmas, to me, is not happening in ten days’ time. I cannot fathom it which means I’ll be going into a slight meltdown when I am running around trying to get everything sorted before the 25th December. The thing that I wanted to do more of this year was to shop small. I am a huge advocate for bigging up the “little people” and giving your hard earned money to those who work around the clock to create stunning, unique items that absolutely nobody else is going to have. Nevertheless, it hasn’t gone to plan (as usual) this year. If you are nowhere near ready, like me, and want to buy beautiful gifts that will make individuals do a happy dance, read on for my favourite small businesses to buy from this Christmas.

I adore Emma’s style. She mixes classic tattoo designs with a gothic twist, making some of the most beautiful art I’ve ever seen. Her cards and prints are fantastically made: printed on high quality texture paper and packed in biodegradable cellophane alongside a cardboard envelope meaning all her items are plastic free. Each design she creates has a story behind it and is hand-drawn and then printed, so you know that anything you buy from Emma Inks is completely unique that you and the goth, rocker and skull enthusiast in your life will fall in love with. Be quick! Final orders for UK shipping in time for Christmas is the 17th December.

If you want to inject rainbows, colour and cute illustrations into someone’s life, you will want to buy something from Dorkface. Jemma, originally from Liverpool, draws and creates so many wonderful pieces from prints to calendars to badges to pins and now, even t-shirts! Every piece of the Dorkface collection is filled with positivity and a vibrance that will lift anyone’s spirits. For those who love inspiration, positivity and who’s life is filled with colour, this small business is the one to go to. Jemma says to get your orders in NOW before Christmas to avoid disappointment.

Another Liverpool-born independent store, The Hippy Rose is a mother-daughter duo who create items made with love and aim to help reduce plastic waste with their beautiful canvas bags, market bags and stunning accessories such as velvet eye masks, makeup bags and travel items you can’t live without. I literally adore the Burnt Orange Velvet bag but I’m pretty certain I’ve missed out. It is gorgeous and a bag that can transform any outfit, day or night. Perfect for the people in your life who love to shop until they drop and need an accessory that is strong, will hold all of their items and stylish with a chic twist. Order before 18th December for Christmas!

Barre Balance is one of the things I miss most about Liverpool. Since meeting Natalie last year, she has thrived and turned her business into a place of love, community, strength and relaxation. Natalie offers packages and gift vouchers for women who want to begin a journey of fitness and self-love; she also offers evenings with films and nibbles, organises coffee trips and Christmas parties and has her own range of Barre Balance goodies too. If you know somebody who wants to try something new, wants to love her own body and wants to be a part of something beautiful in the heart of Liverpool, a gift from Barre Balance is the way to go! Natalie’s studio is based in Bulldoch House in Liverpool.

Whoever you’re buying for this Christmas, there is something for everyone wherever you shop, but when you shop small, you are changing people’s lives and at a time as special as Christmas, you’ll be giving more than you know.

Have you found some last-minute inspiration?

Love, Faye xo
