Books I Received For Christmas 2019

A book is a dream that you hold in your hand – Neil Gaiman.

Are we still allowed to talk about the C word? It feels as though it was that long ago that it didn’t really happen! My house says otherwise; gifts and bags are everywhere waiting for their lovely new home to be in pristine condition, places that I haven’t figured out yet, nevermind made them pristine. These gifts include my gorgeous new books that I cannot wait to read. Let’s just not talk about the unread ones I still have from Christmas 2018…

I was well and truly spoilt with reading material again this year. Books are the one thing I ask for each year (as if I haven’t got enough already) because I adore the tradition of receiving books and have done since I was a child – thanks to my mum who always picks out amazing reads. I also get to devour brand new stories which I completely fall in love with. From an extra special edition of my favourite book of all time to the books that I’ve been waiting months for and exciting surprises, here are the seven stunning books I’m lucky to call my own.

I do not know how I got so lucky to receive a FIRST EDITION of my absolute favourite book in the entire world. I’ve talked about my love of Peter and Wendy on the blog before and in person. If you start a conversation about Neverland, I will sit and talk to you for hours. To have a first edition in my possession is a dream come true. I cannot begin to describe the level of detail on every page, the stunning additional illustration plates and the fact that it has been in the world for almost a century. My mind is BLOWN. I need to find a super special place for it in my home and pronto. A huge thank you to Warren again for gifting me such a wonderful book.

Everybody loves a dark monstrous vampire, or the bad boy that wants to be saved. At least in stories; not in real life because that almost never works and is far more effort than it’s worth. Warren introduced me to An Interview with a Vampire – starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise – a few months ago and I completely fell in love with it. Tom Cruise was next level in the film and his role as Lestat de Lioncourt is one of my favourites of his ever. I can’t wait to see what the original story has to offer and I might even take it to read in Romania!

Children of Blood and Bone was my favourite read of 2018. Speechless is the word I used to describe Tomi Adeyemi’s debut and I can still remember the way my heart raced as I turned the pages of an incredible story that had me gripped from the first few chapters. The twist at the end of the story is crystal clear in my mind which shows just how much I loved the characters and how invested I was in this story. I can’t wait to pick up where I left off and continue reading one of the legendary stories of the decade.

You know you’ve got a cool best mate when they buy you books for Christmas. The best kind of mates buy you the books that they’ve been going on about for ages, but you haven’t had the time nor the money to pick them up for yourself and so said best friend buys them for you. Despite him continuously telling me to read this book, I have no idea what the story is about, and I want it to stay that way. I’m imagining an unrequited love between the prince and a commoner who will show him that his cruel ways are petty and unforgiving and gruesome, something similar to Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen but better.

As I have no clue about the story of The Cruel Prince, I certainly don’t know what its sequel will have to offer, but I’m excited to find out!

Warren’s parents very kindly bought me a stunning new book to read. The book itself is absolutely beautiful with book edges that have been sprayed in intricate detail. It is a story that I wouldn’t have thought to pick up myself and so I am really excited to expand my usual reading habits and delve into a story that seems to be a little more like The Thorn Birds which I read during my school years. At a quick glance, it is about family and betrayal which always makes a remarkable book.

Six years ago, I fell in love with Erin Morgenstern’s writing when I read her beautiful debut, The Night Circus. Since then, I’ve been wishing for a brand-new story from her and we finally have it! I haven’t read into The Starless Sea too much because I want to keep it as magical and mystical as my first experience of Morgenstern’s writing. I already know that I’m going to love it even if the standards have been set high.

I have a lot of reading to do already this year, but I am going to enjoy every page and soak up every word of these new books of mine. At this rate, I’ll never need to buy a new book again which suits me just fine as you may find out in an upcoming blog post. Stay tuned…

Love, Faye xo

    A first edition, how wonderful!

Tom Cruise in An Interview With A Vampire is fantastic, totally agree with you there. Easily one of my favourite characters of all time. Lestat is glorious. I love the film so I need to get myself a copy of the book!

It really is! 😍 I definitely feel the same about him. I might have to watch the film again soon! It’s not too long either so should be a quick read. Thank you for commenting! Faye x
